Abstract

Effect of heat-treatment of flakes on the physical and mechanical properties of flakeboard was investigated. The flakes were heat-treated at three different temperatures, 150, 170, and 190 A degrees C, for 2 h in a heating chamber. The weight loss of the specimens considerably increased with increasing temperature. The thickness swelling and water absorption of the specimens significantly decreased with increasing treatment temperature, in particular for 190 A degrees C. The modulus of rupture and modulus of elasticity in bending decreased with increasing temperature while the internal bond strength increased.
